Yahoo Japan Shuts Down GeoCities
March 31, 2019Yahoo Japan Killed 5900 Fraudulent Ads
May 24, 2019Today is the end of the Heisei era in Japan, which lasted for 30 years from 1989 to 2019. It’s an extremely significant event for Japan as the Emperor abdicated for the first time in 200 years. May 1, 2019, is the start of the Reiwa era. The era-year is still used widely in Japan, and there is a bit of mini Y2K happening there.
The last 30 years was also a significant period for the World Wide Web. It changed how companies do businesses, and how people consume content, entertain, shop, and communicate.
What would the World Wide Web take us during the next 30 years? The main focus of WWW in the first 30 years was to connect the world. I think in the next 30 years, WWW would serve more at the individual level, connecting all the dots in one’s life. Just like businesses shifted marketing from offline to online, they may need to shift the marketing platform from websites and apps to something completely new in the near future. And, that’s exciting.
